I bought the thing for little or nothing from a private owner in September '01 with just over 62,000 miles on it. Little did I know that this would turn out to be a bad investment. After semi-smooth sailing for a couple of weeks I run into engine trouble of the expensive kind. This 4-cylinder, base model decides to jump time (timing belt break) just as the wife & I are headed to the beach. I do a little investigating and come to find that this is a recall repair that I lucked out on. I send it to Charlie Thomas Isuzu and they fix me up a nice recall ticket that requires replacing the heads, two pistons & valves, and timing belt. Minor inconvenience & repairs courtesy of Isuzu mfg. Since then, the check engine light has been relentless. It was diagnosed as a rapid misfire from cylinders 1&3 which I ended up replacing the spark plugs, wires, & coil (real source of problem) and now I'm occasionally graced with a flashing check engine light at speeds over 70mph.
